About the Company: Facebook

Facebook is an American social media and social networking service company that was founded by Mark Zuckerberg along with his college students Eduardo Saverin, Andrew McCollum, Dustin Moskovitz and Chris Hughes. It was officially founded on 4th of February 2004 in Cambridge, Massachusetts, and is headquartered in California, U.S.A.
Mark Zuckerberg was the student of Harvard University and built a website “Facemash” in 2003. The website attracted 450 visitors and 22,000 photo views in the first four hours of its launch. But, it was later shut down by the University administration.
In January 2004, Zuckerberg and his friends invested $1,000 each and launched “TheFacebook” later in the month of February. Facebooks are the directories of people in an organization with photos. Mark came up with the name and launched “thefacebook.com”. Later, when the company became successful, they purchased the domain “facebook.com” from AboutFace Corporation for US$200,000 in 2005 and dropped “the” from its name.

About the logo:

The foundation of the company was laid when “Facemash” was launched in 2003. The official “Facebook” was launched in 2004. The company has not changed its logo since but has modified it multiple times.

The First logo:
.
“Facemush” was launched in 2003 but was taken down soon after its launch by the University administration. The logo was a wordmark in white on a dark red background.

Official First logo:

Later in 2004, the website “thefacebook.com” with the name “TheFacebook” was launched. The logo was a wordmark in lowercase placed in a blue background. Lowercase signifies that the company is casual and laid back. The blue colour was used because of the vision condition of Mark Zuckerburg.

Second Logo:

Later in 2005, the company purchased the domain “facebook.com” and relaunched its logo with a new wordmark. They dropped “the” from the domain name.

Third logo:

Mark Zuckerberg and Sean Parker hired a designer, Mike Buzzard of Cuban Council to design the logo for Facebook and relaunched the previous logo in 2015.

Fourth logo:
.
The fourth logo was launched in 2019 in which the background was removed and the wordmark was written with the blue colour.

The Corporate logo:
.
The logo is a wordmark in uppercase and in grey colour and the company is using it since 2019.
