Lux is a global brand developed by Unilever that manufactures beauty soaps, shower gels, bath additives, hair shampoos and conditioners. It was founded by the firm Lever Brothers which is now known as Unilever in 1899. It was introduced as a laundry soap under the name “Sunlight Flakes” and is headquartered in Singapore.
At present, Lux is the market leader for soap bars in India, Pakistan, South Africa, Bangladesh, Brazil and Thailand. Its market share across 100 countries is estimated to be around €1 billion. The products are manufactured at 71 locations with more than 2000 suppliers that supply these products across the globe. In India, Lux celebrates women with “Golden Rose Awards” every year.

The logo of Lux has been transformed multiple times since its launch. Lux was originally launched as “Sunlight Flake” and the name “Lux” was adopted in 1900. Lux is Latin for light and a short version of luxury.

The first logo was launched in 1966. It was a wordmark in uppercase and the name “LEVER” was placed below it. Prior to this, they used a simple wordmark.

The second logo was launched in 1974. The wordmark was used but with another font and the boldness was reduced.

Lux introduced the third logo in 1983 and used it until 1993. The font was changed and a modern font was used. The length of one arm of “X” was extended.

The fourth logo was launched in 1993 and was continued until 1999. The extended length of “X” was reduced to normal.

The company introduced a brand new logo in blue colour in 1999. The font style was also changed.

The current Lux Soap logo was launched in 2004. The wordmark was written in golden colour in modern fonts and the arms of alphabet “L” and “X” were connected.
