.
About the Company:
.
Audi is a German automobile manufacturer that designs, produces, engineers, markets and sells luxury cars. Audi is a member of “the Volkswagen Group” and has its roots at Bavaria, Germany. Audi is a result of a merger of companies which are Wanderer, NSU, the August Horch Automobilwerke GmbH and Audi itself. It registered the name ‘Audi’ in the year 1910 and manufactured its first car in the very same year. The word “Audi” means “to listen” in Latin.
.
History of the Company:
.
Audi was founded by August Horch in the year 1909 after he quit his company the August Horch Automobilwerke GmbH. He was not allowed to use the name ‘Horch’ for his company as his previous company was using it. He, therefore, had a meeting with his friends and together they agreed on ‘Audi’. Audi means “to listen” in Latin and ‘hoerch’ which sounded like ‘Horch’ means ‘listen’ in German. In 1932, three big automobile manufacturers from Germany merged with Audi to form the Auto Union. These companies were Wanderer, Horch, DKW.
.
Logo Creation of Audi:
.
Let us discuss the logo creation of Audi, the logo consists of four rings that reflect the four manufacturers of the Auto Union. The first ring from the left reflects Audi, next one reflects DKW, next one Horch and the last one reflects Wanderer. In 1932, these four independent automobile manufacturers merged into one manufacturer and formed Auto Union. The logo consists of four overlapping rings and it is the symbol of protection and power.

The first logo of Audi:

The company Audi was an independent manufacturer of the automobile that was founded by August Horch in July 1909 in Germany. August Horch used a logo in which ‘Audi’ was inscribed in a black triangle with the number 1 on top.

In 1932, Horch, DKW and Wanderer merged with Audi. All these were independent manufacturers of automobiles and had different logos. They formed an Auto Union, the very first logo of Auto Union AG consisted of four interwoven rings with the logos of the four companies within the circles. It represented unity and cooperation which the brand believed in.

Third logo of Audi:
.
The Auto Union updated its logo design in 1949. The Union removed individual logos of companies and inserted “Auto Union” inside the overlapping rings.

Fourth logo of Audi:
.
On January 1, 1969, the Auto Union merged with NSU and thus a new logo was introduced. NSU was one of the largest manufacturers of motorcycles in the world in the 1950s. The merger was known as the Audi NSU Auto Union.

Fifth Logo of Audi:

The company went back to its ring logo in 1985. They removed the inscribed “Auto Union” from the overlapping rings. ‘Audi’ was included below the overlapping rings. This is the most remembered logo of the company. The colour of the logo symbolizes the power and elegance of the company.
