It was founded by Lee Byung-Chul in 1938. It was established as a small trading company with forty employees and dealt with dried fish, groceries.

Samsung is a Korean word which means “three stars” and represents “big, numerous and powerful”. The name was given by Lee Byung Chul, he had a vision that his company would become everlasting like stars in the sky.

The rise of Samsung:

By 1950, Samsung entered the woollen and sugar industry. Samsung entered the electronics industry in the late 1960s and its first product was a black and white television set. Currently, Samsung has 6th highest global brand value and is the largest company of information technology, electronics and semiconductors in terms of revenue. It is also the second-largest shipbuilder company in the world in terms of revenues. In 2018, Samsung retained its top position as global smartphone vendors in terms of global smartphone shipments.

First Logo:

The company was established in 1938 as a small trading company. There was no need for a logo in initial years but used a three-star pattern for recognization. The three-stars were placed inside a circle along with three stripes and wheat plants. The three-star represented the name of the company and wheat represented its agricultural roots. It resembled a post stamp.

Second Logo:

Samsung launched its second logo in 1969. It was much cleaner than the previous logo and consisted of the wordmark in uppercase.

Third Logo:

The company introduced the third logo in 1979. The fonts of the wordmark and the three-stars pattern were changed.

Fourth Logo:

Samsung introduced a brand new logo in 1993 which reflected its slogan “Quality First”. They removed the three stars and introduced a dark blue oval shape. The wordmark was in uppercase and was placed inside the oval. Also, the oval was tilted at an angle of 10 degrees that is supposed to represent the world moving through space.

Current logo:

An upgraded reversed logo was adopted by Samsung in 2005. It was in uppercase in a dark blue colour but the oval shape was removed.
