About the Company:

The company was established in 1887 by Torakusu Yamaha in Hamamatsu and headquartered in Hamamatsu, Shizuoka. It was founded as ‘Nippon Gakki Co. Ltd.’ and used to manufacture Piano and Reed organs. Currently, Yamaha is the world’s largest manufacturers of musical instruments and a leading manufacturer of semiconductors, computer-related goods, industrial robots, sports goods, home appliances, etc. The motorcycle division started in 1955 as Yamaha Motor Co., Ltd. which is the sister company of Yamaha Corporation.
Yamaha entered the Indian market in 1985 with the launch of motorcycles. Currently, it has three manufacturing plants in India situated in Chennai, Faridabad and Surajpur. These plants manufacture motorcycles, spare parts and gearless scooters for domestic as well as for the international market. Between 2012 and 2019, the company manufactured more than 5 million units in India. Yamaha also achieved the milestone of manufacturing more than 10 million units since its establishment in India.

About the Logo of Yamaha:

The Company decided to use a tuning fork as its corporate mark, and a design featuring a “Chinese phoenix holding a tuning fork in its mouth” as its trademark in 1898. The tuning fork was used because Yamaha originally manufactured musical instruments and tuning fork is a tool used to tune musical instruments. The current logo shows three tuning forks which represent the cooperative relationship of the company and links its three pillars i.e., technology, production, sales while also symbolizes harmony, melody and rhythm which are the three essential elements of music.

The First Logo:
.
The first logo was introduced in 1898, one year after the establishment of Nippon Gakki Co. Ltd. This was the design with a Chinese Phoenix holding a tuning fork in its mouth and it was used until 1927.

Second Logo:
.
The second logo was introduced in 1927 while the company registered the three tuning fork for the trademark in 1916. In this logo, the trademark was placed inside a triangle looking shape and was continued till 1934.

Third Logo:
.
Yamaha introduced a new logo in 1934 which was widely used for advertising in newspapers and catalogues. A piano was used in the logo and the wordmark, three fork trademark was placed in the centre.

Fourth Logo:
.
The company launched a new logo in 1956 for musical instruments.

Fifth Logo:
.
The fifth logo was launched by Yamaha in 1959. The company removed the wordmark and continued with the trademark.

Sixth Logo:
.
In 1967, the company launched a standard version of the logo in which the trademark was placed inside a circle on black background.

Seventh Logo:
.
A new reversed version of the previous logo was adopted by the company in 1980 which is currently being used. It is violet in colour which is the corporate colour of the company.
